Motoworks Chicago started in 2004 as a general motorcycle repair shop on Chicago’s southwest side. Over the next decade, Motoworks grew into Chicago’s preeminent BMW motorcycle service shop, as well as the area’s premier dealer for Vespa, Ducati and Triumph. Services aside, Motoworks stands as a pillar of the Chicago motorcycle community. Motoworks founder, Johnny Scheff, was often hosting events at the shop, as well as having his own adventures, such as running and winning the Mexican 1000 off-road motorcycle race.

In 2014, Johnny commissioned Salzmoto to create Behind The Moto, a site dedicated to sharing the adventures of Motoworks Chicago. The stories were already there, they just needed telling. The site launched in February of 2014 and features everything from custom motorcycles for sale in the showroom, to staff profiles, to coverage of Motoworks-sponsored racing efforts at AHRMA, the Mexican 1000 and the Alcan 5000. Most of all, the site exists to capture the spirit of camaraderie and adventure that flows through the people there.

Like all of my content marketing clients, the best part of the work I do for Behind the Moto is having these adventures right along with the crew at Motoworks. Being part of the staff gives me a unique vantage point to tell those behind-the-scenes stories.
